Theoretical framework of information architecture has its own foundations derived from those of information science, since this last contains the first. Origins of the expression "information architecture" are described, and Wurman's contribution (being he an architect) is referred to, namely his creation of the expression in 1979, as a successful metaphor that he further developed into a comprehensive systematic view. The appropriation of the expression "information architecture" as aspects related to the user-system interface within computerized information systems and Internet by other authors, such as Morville and Rosenfeld, in their work "Information Architecture for the World Wide Web" (3rd ed., 2000), recognize the previous experience in the area of information science as an important contribution to the success of their ideas. One may expect that interaction and mutual enrichment among these various approaches will continue and improve, provoking positive changes on the information science graduate programs.
