ADCS MOVE TO CUT POWER DISSIPATION

The demand towards portability in electronic systems is paving the way for the emergence of analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), particularly those sampling at a frequency > 1 MHz. This means they will be putting out longer digital words faster, yet using lesser power. Cutting power not only reduces battery drain, but it also permits a more compact design because of lesser heat generated and less complex circuits required. In the future, a figure of merit based on power needs, resolution, and sampling rate indicates a trend of further reducing ADC's power levels fast.
