摘要：
The design and operating principles of gas seals with external and internal gas pressure sources, mainly for use in hydrostatic spindle bearings, are described. It is shown that a belt drive can serve as a pump to give the excess pressure and vacuum needed for the gas seal to operate. Design features of pumps formed by the moving surfaces of the sealed devices are considered.
