The article examines the role and place of sociocultural competence in the structure of the professional competence of future teachers-philologists. The evolution of sociocultural competence in linguodidactics has been outlined. The article proves that sociocultural competence is one of the key components of the communicative competence. Sociocultural competence is considered as an ability to interact effectively with people of different socio-economic backgrounds and cultures. From philosophical and pedagogical points of view sociocultural competence is characterized by psychological mobility, sociability, cultural tolerance, readiness for sociocultural activity, ability to adapt and integrate in the society. Ukrainian scientists stress the role of native language training in the process of sociocultural competence formation. The content of the school subject "the Ukrainian language" is considered to be an effective means of sociocultural competence formation. Attracting school pupils to national culture, traditions and social relationship makes the basis for successful sociocultural competence formation and provides pupils with the ability to participate in cross-cultural communication. The analysis of the current educational process in pedagogical university proves the necessity for its correction pertaining to future language teachers. readiness to provide pupils with skills in sociocultural field. The educational process should be based on the integration of training, brining-up and scientific development of students, which is performed at individual, group, faculty, university, interuniversity and international levels. The core of the content of training make the Humanities - the Ukrainian and foreign languages, history of Ukrainian culture, culture-oriented linguistics, literature, pedagogy and interdisciplinary approach. Among the pedagogical technologies preference should be given to those, which aim at activation and intensification of students. activity (interactive lectures, game technologies, problem training, usage of information technologies), their educating (educating within the process of training, mind games) and research activity (conferences, round tables, discussions).
