摘要：
The development of painting in colonial Hispanic America had significant differences from region to region. What was painted was the result of the very particular cultural experiences and social conditions of each society. Through an overview of the most representative visual themes in the New Kingdom of Granada (Colombia), this article pretends to show the particular set of values rooted on that society and, at the same time, tries to highlight the image's role as a mechanism to spread discourses that could guide the colonial practices.
