摘要
In this article, Kelley uses a discussion of the film Beah: A Black Woman Speaks to explore the life experiences of actress-activist-filmmaker LisaGay Hamilton and her subject-cum-mentor, Beah Richards. Throughout this piece, Kelley consistently maintains the importance of these women's lives, particularly in light of their numerous struggles with sexism, racism, and issues of identity as Black women in America. However, what is most important for Kelley is not simply these women's battles, but the fact that they both went on to tell their stories-what he calls "truth-telling." In addition to providing insight into the life histories of both Hamilton and Richards, this article draws connections between the two women's lives and posits them as exemplars of the Black radical tradition.
