In order to study the kinetics of polymerization of several 1,1'-biindenes, we have investigated an easy method allowing the analysis of both polymer and monomer, inexpensive in products and which doesn't disrupt the reaction. Thus, indirect methods, such as dilatometry or calorimetry, were found unsuited as they only allow the analysis of final samples and present specific disadvantages. Aliquots are rapidly sampled and deactivated at different reaction times. The mixture is then analyzed by gel permeation chromatography, using columns of low porosity to improve the separation of monomer and solvents.
