INELASTIC NEUTRON-SCATTERING OF (AGI)X(AGPO3)1-X GLASSES

Inelastic scattering experiments have been perfomed for the superionic conducting composite glass (AgI)0.5(AgPO3)0.5, and pure glass AgPO3 using 14.8 meV neutrons with a tripple-axis spectrometer with the following conditions: momentum transfer fixed at eight values Q=0.7-4.5 angstrom-1, energy transfer varied between DELTAE= - 6 - + 6 meV, specimen temperature T= 295 (200, 5) K. An apparent difference was seen between the scattered intensities for the two kinds of glasses, and an extra excitation around DELTAE= 2-3 meV was found in the composite glass. This is similar to the crystalline superionic conductors, where the excitation is considered to be arising from the local vibrational mode due to the groups of atoms containing the conducting ions.
