University and citizenship education

This paper is part of a theoretical reference of the research project entitled "Citizenship and political participation in university students", enrolled in the IEP Political Studies Institute of the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga UNAB, which aims to analyze the relationship between the central civic education and political participation of university students, answering questions such as: are they sufficient academic resources for the achievement of those powers? Does political participation is an issue of concern to young people? What institutional spaces foster such participation? What is the relationship between the proposed citizenship training college and appropriation that young people make of it? To expose the subject, begins with an approach to the concept of citizenship from different streams and goes on to discuss some ideas concerning the role of the university in the development of citizens.
