TM-TYPE SELF-GUIDED BEAMS WITH CIRCULAR CROSS-SECTION

摘要
The existence of TM-type self-guided beams with circular cross-section is demonstrated. The lowest order TM type of beam is shown to be stable to symmetric perturbations, whereas all TE beams are unstable. This demonstrates that the solution of Maxwell's equations can exhibit a significant departure from that of the scalar wave equation.
