A TEM STUDY OF ONE-DIMENSIONAL INCOMMENSURATE MODULATION ON THE (001) PLANE OF SINGLE-CRYSTAL BI2SR2CACU2OY

On the (001) plane of single-crystal Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oy one-dimensional (1D) incommensurate modulation along the [010] axis with a periodicity of 6.7b (3.6 nm), in addition to the commonly observed one (2.6 nm), has been observed by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM). A permutation twin, with the permutated a and b axes in one part of the twin relative to another, has also been observed. No misorientation between superlattice and sublattice has been found either in the 1D modulation region or in the permutation twin region.
