THE REVISION OF THE GENUS BULIMINELLITA CUSHMAN AND STAINFORTH, 1947, AND EUBULIMINELLA GEN-NOV

The Buliminella-concept, not borne out by its type species, is here recovered by the new genus Eubuliminella. The characteristic features of Eubuliminella include a well-defined Turrilina-like toothplate and the presence of a half-open cristate lip at the peripheral side of the aperture. Bulimina elegans var. exilis Brady, 1884 is designated as type species. The Buliminella species possessing these features are removed from Buliminella and revised and reclassified in Eubuliminella. The genus Buliminellita Cushman and Stainforth, 1947 is retained separately despite its very close affinities with Eubuliminella. It can be distinguished from the latter by the presence of a neck on the last chamber and by the shorter, more stout internal toothplate. The genus is revised to include a number of former Buliminella species. The systematics of the Turrilinidae is reanalysed in the light of the revision.
