摘要
During the emission of electrons in a high current density (j(e) greater than or similar to 4 X 10(6) A/cm2), the surface of the tip of a tungsten microcrystal becomes unstable and becomes an effective emitter of neutral atoms. The time required for the field ionization of an atom after desorption from the surface of a microcrystal is calculated. The results are used to develop some new ideas regarding the physical mechanism for the breakdown of vacuum electrical insulation.
