Pondok Pesantren is an institution of Islamic education that existed and recognized by the society in Indonesia that played a role in spreading the knowledge of Islam in Indonesia. Therefore, this research analyzed the history of the establishment of Pondok Pesantren in Kerinci, Jambi Indonesia, its curriculum and role in Islamic education. Among the research questions are what was the curriculum of Pondok Pesantren in Indonesia and Kerinci, Jambi and what were the roles of Pondok Pesantren in the district of Kerinci Jambi in Islamic education such as the role in teaching al-Qur'an and tafsir, Arabic language, calligraphy and activities to the societies? Findings of this research show that Pondok Pesantren in Kerinci have developed rapidly since their establishment until present and have been using the madrasah system of education that combines the curriculum of Islamic education and general education. Besides that, Pondok Pesantren in Kerinci have played major roles in Islamic education in term of producing pupil that were memorizer of Qur'an and expert in Arabic language, da'i (Muslim Preacher), expert calligrapher, leaders of the society, etc. In short, education offered by the Pondok Pesantren had given an opportunity to the Muslims in Kerinci to gain knowledge on Islam and to apply it in their lives.
