DIFFUSE CIRCUMSTELLAR BANDS IN NGC-7027 AND IRAS-21282-21282+5050

New spectroscopic data on two sources, NGC 7027 and IRAS 21282 + 5050, for which diffuse bands have been reported in a circumstellar environment, are presented. These two sources are notorious for their strong infrared emission bands classically assigned to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). In NGC 7027, diffuse bands are only marginally detected at 5780, 5797, and 6284 angstrom, and their circumstellar origin appears dubious. In the case of IRAS 21282 + 5050, diffuse bands are clearly detected at 5780, 5797, 6177, 6203, 6270, and 6284 angstrom. However, the enhancement of 5797 angstrom which was taken as evidence of its circumstellar origin is shown to be an artefact due to a blend with a CIV line at 5802 angstrom. For IRAS 21282 + 5050 also, the circumstellar origin of the diffuse bands is questioned. These results weaken the hypothesis that PAH or PAH-related molecules might be the carriers of diffuse interstellar bands.
