SUBSTITUTION OF VANADIUM AND CHROMIUM FOR COPPER IN BI2SR2CACU2O8

The doping of Bi2Sr2Ca(Cu1-xMx)2O8 with chromium and vanadium has been investigated. The amount of doping metal added was x = 0.01-0.05. No changes in the a and b lattice parameters occurred. The c lattice parameters decreased from 30.72(1) angstrom to 30.681(6) angstrom in the chromium doped superconductor and to 30.635(3) angstrom in the vanadium doped superconductor. The maximum solubility was slightly above 1% for Cr and 2% for V at 845-degrees-C. The critical temperature decreased with increasing amount of doping metal in the single-phase region. The maximum critical-temperature drop was 3.4 K for Cr and 5.6 K for V.
