INTERCALATION OF ALKALI-METALS (NA, K, RB, CS) INTO HIGHLY ORIENTED POLYACETYLENE - STRUCTURAL STUDY OF THE DIFFERENT PHASES

Highly oriented polyacetylene (HOPA) doped with alkali metals Na, K, Rb and Cs in vapour phase leads to the formation of (MyCH)x compounds described by a channel structure. Radiocrystallographic studies shows that the alkali columns are surrounded by four polymer chains for K, Rb and Cs, and three chains for Na. The highly oriented texture of the host lattice allows a better understanding of the structural organization of the different phases.
