Atopic dermatitis is an inflammatory skin condition that primarily affects children. While the exact pathogenesis of the condition is not understood, pharmacological treatment with topical corticosteroids and calcineurin inhibitors is aimed at suppressing the heightened immune response underlying the disease. © 2009 Adis Data Information BV.
