The rates of peptic ulcer-related hospitalization and mortality are high among elderly patients. Gastric acid suppression with proton pump inhibitors is the mainstay of treatment and should be used in combination with antibacterial agents for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection. © 2011 Adis Data Information BV.
