摘要
Purpose of review: An evaluation of the most comprehensive review of literature on the Clubhouse model to date was conducted, with the goal of characterizing the ways in which social determinants of health (SDoH) were examined within studies of the Clubhouse model and evaluating the composition of Clubhouse samples with respect to characteristics that may reflect disproportionate exposure to social disadvantage (e.g., structural racism and discrimination). Recent findings: Findings from the aforementioned review indicate that the Clubhouse model likely benefits individuals with mental illness, especially with respect to employment-related outcomes. However, this review did not include information regarding SDoH domains upon which Clubhouse studies focused. Further, this review did not evaluate the composition of Clubhouse samples in terms of member characteristics that reflect disproportionate exposure to social disadvantage (e.g., race/ethnicity; disability status). Summary: We found that most studies focused on narrowly defined factors associated with economic stability and social and community context. Moreover, sample characteristics reporting was insufficient for understanding whether the Clubhouse literature included adequate representation of or equally benefited individuals at disproportionate social risk (e.g., minoritized racial groups). How these gaps can inform a research agenda aimed at understanding how SDoH influence implementation and evaluation of Clubhouse services are discussed. © 2022, This is a U.S. Government work and not under copyright protection in the US; foreign copyright protection may apply.
