Influence of modified attapulgite on silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives properties

Attapulgite (ABSO-PRO L-16) was modified using a coupling agents, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) and 3-mercaptopropyl-trimethoxysilane (MPTMS). The samples characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR/ATR), Elemental analysis CHNS, Mastersizer analysis and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). FTIR spectrums patterns revealed that a new Si–O–Si bond formed after modification of attapulgite with APTES. This modification methods allows for the improvement of the chemical compatibility of attapulgite with specific resins for application in heat-resistant silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives. New self-adhesive tapes based on attapulgite-modified silicone resins have been obtained. The new self-adhesive materials showed increased thermal resistance while maintaining good self-adhesive properties.
