Considers the use of computer programs for analysis and evaluation of data from field observations on the conditions of earth dams. These programs are currently under development. They all, however, have the same structure. The paper describes how the programs should be developed for handling remotely installed instrumentation. A software package has been developed which can be used for any earth dam with little modification. Appropriate database organisation is required. Similar programs can also be developed for concrete dams.
