High-performance thin-layer chromatographic method for the determination of chlorpyrifos and its metabolite in visceral samples

In an attempt to determine chlorpyrifos insecticide and its metabolite 3,5,6-trichloropyridinol in visceral samples, a rapid high-performance thin-layer chromatographic method with densitometry is described. The recovery of chlorpyrifos from visceral tissues averaged 88%, while that of 3,5,6-trichlorpyridinol averaged 90%. The sensitivity and precision of the method were found to be adequate for the analysis of chlorpyrifos and its metabolite in a complex matrix like post-mortem tissues in forensic toxicology. The developed method has the advantage of using the sample extracts for analysis without cleanup.
