Transfer ionization in energetic \alpha-He collisions

Total cross sections σif for transfer ionization α + He → He+ + α + e are computed at high energies by means of the four-body continuum distorted wave (CDW-4B) approximation. Comparisons between the present results σif and the available experimental data at E = 30-600 keV/amu yield satisfactory agreement at impact energies E > 80 keV/amu, in sharp contrast to the previous independent event model.
