摘要
The coronavirus pandemic represented a big challenge for the healthcare system. In this respect cancer patients were a particularly vulnerable group and their treatment was characterized by uncertainties and challenges. Various medicinal treatments were available in order to avoid severe courses of infections in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), such as nirmatrelvir/ritonavir and remdesivir. In cases of severe infections the intensive care treatment is no different to that of non-cancer patients. In the acute phase of the infection, oncological treatment strategies often had to be adapted; however, the fear of a severe infection alone must not influence the treatment of the underlying disease. By organizational measures and vaccinations severe courses of COVID-19 can be reduced in cancer patients. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Medizin Verlag GmbH, ein Teil von Springer Nature.
