The Lotka–Volterra model of competition between two species and Gause’s experiments: Is there any correspondence?

Analysis of the deviations between the trajectories of the Lotka–Volterra model for competition between two species and Gause’s experimental data on cocultivation of Paramecium aurelia and P. caudatum demonstrates rather a high probability of the absence of any correspondence between the model and experimental data. The sets of deviations have been tested for symmetry relative to the origin of coordinates (Kolmogorov–Smirnov, Lehmann–Rosenblatt, Wald–Wolfowitz, and Mann–Whitney tests), as well as for the presence/absence of serial correlations (the Swed–Eisenhart and jumps up–jumps down tests). © 2015, Pleiades Publishing, Inc.
