Der systemische Lupus erythematodes (SLE) ist eine systemische inflammatorische Erkrankung, die jedes Organ des menschlichen Körpers betreffen und signifikanten Schaden verursachen kann. Kinder (juveniler SLE) zeigen im Vergleich zu Patienten mit Krankheitsbeginn im Erwachsenenalter (adulter SLE) häufiger ausgedehnte Organbeteiligung und mehr Organschäden bereits bei Diagnosestellung sowie Resistenz gegen eine immunmodulatorische Therapie. Dieser Beitrag stellt Parallelen und Unterschiede des klinischen Erscheinungsbilds, bekannter pathophysiologischer Mechanismen und verfügbarer Therapiestrategien des juvenilen und adulten SLE gegenüber.
