Basic principles of scaling-up theory and a method of hydrodynamic modeling of mass-transfer apparatuses are considered. The hydrodynamic nature of the scaling-up effect is demonstrated by a number of examples, including industrial-scale apparatuses up to 12 m in diameter, and ways of eliminating this effect are discussed.
