摘要
The process of accidental drowning is described. Clinical symptoms and complications are presented, as are the different effects of drowning in salt and in fresh water. Toddlers and male adolescents make up the two main risk groups. In the case of accidents involving toddlers in the bathtub the possibility of child abuse must be borne in mind. Primary care of the patient at the site of the accident, the particular problems that hypothermia causes with resuscitation, the possibility of using ECMO, and prognostic factors are presented in some detail.
