A new species of Protium Burm.f. with uncertain affinity from the Colombian Amazon. Studies in Neotropical Burseraceae XVII

Recently discovered additional material of a long-puzzling taxon from Amazonian Colombia finally makes its description possible. Based on macromorphology, Protium pristifolium appears to belong in the recently described sect. Papilloprotium because of its milky resin, lack of lateral pulvinuli, pubescent disk, villous petal adaxial surface, and bony pyrene with the funicular scar below the midpoint of the ventral surface, but preliminary molecular results are inconclusive.
