Radical pairs produced by the photolysis of 4-bromo-2,6-di-tert-butylphenol single crystals doped with 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-quinone are studied by EPR spectroscopy. The mechanism of radical pair generation changes from hydrogen-atom transfer to electron transfer (without proton transfer). The reasons for this change are discussed.
