On the Synonymy of Coprophilus (Zonyptilus) pennifer (Motschulsky, 1845) (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Oxytelinae)

Abstract: The type material of several synonyms of Coprophilus (Zonyptilus) pennifer (Motschulsky, 1845) is revised. Both Coprophilus (Zonyptilus) striatipennis (Eppelsheim, 1894) and C. (Z.) dimidiatipennis Fauvel, 1900 are resurrected from synonymy with C. (Z.) pennifer and re-established as valid species. Coprophilus (Z.) obscurus (Reitter, 1894), C. (Z.) araxis (Reitter, 1894), and C. (Z.) obsoletus (Reitter, 1894) are confirmed to be junior synonyms of C. (Z.) pennifer (Motschulsky, 1845). Lectotypes are designated for Zonoptilusstriatipennis Eppelsheim, 1894, Zonoptilus rufipennis Reitter, 1894, Coprophilus dimidiatipennis Fauvel, 1900, Zonoptilus pennifer v. obscurus Reitter, 1894, Zonoptilus pennifer v. araxis Reitter, 1894, and Zonoptilus sellula v. obsoletus Reitter, 1894. Comments are given on the distributions of C. striatipennis, C. dimidiatipennis, and C. pennifer. © 2020, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
