High-performance liquid chromatographic purification of γ-linolenic acid (GLA) from the seed oil of two Boraginaceae species

摘要
A 94.2% pure fraction of methyl-GLA has been isolated in 84.6% yield from extracts ofAnchusa azurea seed oil (Boraginaceae) by means of a four-step process:simultaneous extraction and saponification of the seeds;concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) by the urea concentration method;urea-concentrate methylation; andhigh performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) fractionation of the PUFA ester concentrate.
