The technique of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry is reviewed with emphasis on the best type of matrix to use with carbohydrates, ways to obtain fragmentation and use of the technique for carbohydrate sequencing. © 1998 Rapid Science Ltd
