Wall-Adjacent Velocity Profiles of Nano-scale Gas Flows

Detailed gas velocity profiles in the vicinity of wall surfaces of nano-scale gaps are analysed by molecular dynamics simulations for argon and oxygen gas flows between diamond surfaces. Force driven flows are simulated at a temperature of 330 K and a pressure of 0.23–3.92 MPa. The flow regime is considered as in the slip-transitional flow. It is discussed why the usual binning for statistics may mislead the velocity profiles. To avoid such misleading, the volume based binning is introduced for obtaining correct velocity profiles next to the wall. It is confirmed that the corrected statistical velocity shows a flatter profile next to the wall with an inflection point followed by an increasing curve.
