Novel dumbbell-like LaVO4:Eu3+ nanocrystals and effect of Ba2+ codoping on luminescence properties of LaVO4:Eu3+ nanocrystals

LaVO4:Eu3+ nanocrystals with different morphologies were synthesized via a simple hydrothermal method in a wide pH range. The as-synthesized samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The results showed that the pH value of the solution played a key role in the formation of the products with various morphologies, including micro-spheres, nanowires, dumbbell-like nanocrystals composed of nanowires. The photoluminescence measurement revealed that the luminescent properties of the samples were changed by varying their morphologies. The emission intensity of t-LaVO4:Eu3+ decreased with the Ba2+ doping concentration and that of m-LaVO4:Eu3+ increased with the Ba2+ doping concentration.
