Isotopes in precipitation in China (1986–1999)

The relation between δ18O in precipitation and surface air temperature for stations over mid-and high-latitude regions in China is different from that for other stations of China. The former is a direct correlation. And the latter is a negative correlation, the yearly average δ18O-temperature coefficient at Haikou station is −0.42%./°C, and is the same as that of the Hong Kong station, both of them represent a tropical monsoon-type climate. Over high latitude regions, the yearly average δ18O-temperature coefficient is about 0.40‰/°C, and is the same as the monthly average δ18O-temperature coefficient for example, Lanzhou station: 0.35, Zhangyie station: 0,46, Urumqi: station: 0.42. In Shijazhuang station over mid latitude regions, the monthly average δ18O-temperature coefficient (about 0.11‰/°C) is smaller than the yearly average δ18O-temperature coefficient (0.34‰/°C). And the δ18O-temperature coefficient of palaeoclimatic in North China Plain (about 0.36‰/°C) is close to the value derived from yearly average δ18O in precipitation and surface air temperature in Shijiazhuang station (0.34‰/°C). So the yearly average δ18O-temperature coefficient (about 0.40‰/°C) derived from stations over mid-and high-latitude regions in China can be used to discuss palaeoclimatic conditions.
