Synthesis, crystal structure and spectroscopic properties of a copper(II) complex of the Sciff-base (PNOAAP) derived from picolinaldehyde N-oxide and 4-aminoantipyridine were presented. Owing to conjunction interaction of the imino double bond, one plane was formed between the pyrazoline ring and the pyridine ring. It is found that the δ values corresponding to identical protons in the PNOAAP ligand shift upfield and also shows splitting due to structural isomerization and the formation of complex. © 2002 Kluwer Academic Publishers.
