In order to reduce the shrinkage of concrete, which can cause cracks on structural or non-structural elements, the addition of a shrinkage reducing admixture (SRA) in concrete mixtures is one of the techniques that can be used. The decrease of shrinkage due to SRA is attributed to the reduction of the surface tension of the pore water. This study analyses the changes on the capillary suction and the oxygen permeability of mortar mixtures with and without SRA. This indicates that the addition of a SRA causes another physical effect on the porous structure, which can also affect the shrinkage of concrete.
