Synthesis of mesoporous carbon aerogels based on metal-containing ionic liquid and its application for electrochemical capacitors

Mesoporous carbon aerogels were prepared by sol-gel polycondensation of resorcinol and formaldehyde through ionic liquid/metal ions synergistic effect. The as-prepared carbon aerogels had a maximum specific surface area of 825 m2 g−1, total pore volume of 0.951 cm3 g−1, and average pore size of 4.6 nm. In addition, a high specific capacitance of 188 F g−1 at a current density of 1 A g−1, high specific energy of 9.08 Wh kg−1 at a specific power of 6250 W kg−1, and excellent cyclic stability could be found.
