Synthesis and characterization of visible light-responsive carbon doped Ti4O7 photocatalyst

The ultra-violet visible light active carbon doped titanium oxide photocatalysts have been prepared from starch as a carbon source. Carbon-doped titanium oxide was obtained by simple ecofriendly microwave method. The characteristic feature of the resulting photocatalyst was studied using advanced techniques. The formation of anorthic Ti4O7 was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. Scanning electron microscopic observation confirms the formation of nanoporous morphology. Methylene blue (MB) decomposition efficiency of 100 % was achieved by the photocatalyst which was prepared by microwave treatment of 30 min. The as-synthesized carbon-doped titanium oxide exhibited a strong photocatalytic activity for the decomposition of MB under UV light irradiation.
