摘要
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a medically unexplained disease with an unclear pathogenesis. The development of CFS may involve a relationship between the immune system and the CNS with the possible involvement of a microorganism. The main symptoms of CFS include unexplained fatigue, impairment of neurocognitive functions and sleep quality, and somatic symptoms. No specific treatment for CFS has been identified and, to date, there is insufficient clinical trial evidence to make conclusive treatment recommendations. Cognitive behavioural therapy is established as a method of improving quality of life, and is most effective when used on an individual patient basis. Clinician education and effective management strategies are urgently needed in order to effectively treat patients with CFS. © 2004 Adis Data Information BV. All rights reserved.
