In den letzten Jahren konnten zahlreiche neue Erkenntnisse auf dem Gebiet des Riesenzelltumors des Knochens (RZTK) gewonnen werden. Einerseits erlangt der diagnostische Nachweis der für diesen Tumor hochcharakteristischen Mutation im Histongen H3F3A immer mehr an Wichtigkeit in der Abgrenzung von anderen riesenzellreichen Läsionen des Knochens, zumal der RZTK ein breites histopathologisches Spektrum zeigen kann, inklusive seltener Varianten ohne osteoklastäre Riesenzellen. Andererseits konnte gezeigt werden, dass die Auswirkungen der H3F3A-Mutation einen Einfluss auf das epigenetische Profil der tumortreibenden Stromazellen haben und somit neue Einblicke zur Genese des RZTK geben.
