We review the properties of classical novae, with particular emphasison their dust formation. Recent observational and theoretical workindicates that CO formation in nova winds does not go to saturation,so that both oxygen- and carbon-rich condensates can appearsimultaneously in the ejected material. The UIR carrier in novaeappears to be near-unique to novae, although whether this is due toenvironmental, excitation or abundance effects is not yet clear.
