The effect of the oxidation stage on the sorption properties of thermally expanded graphite in absorption of liquid hydrocarbons is investigated. The structural characteristics of the sorbents are reported, and their effect on the sorption capacity of powders is demonstrated. The mechanism of sorption of liquids by a bed of sorbent is examined. The optimum conditions of use of the sorbent with consideration of the costs of its production and consumption for eliminating spills are determined.
