For the electromagnetic waves in an isotropic charge-free infinite thin film with the potential application in magneto-optic recording, we investigate a (2+\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$+$$\end{document}1)-dimensional variable-coefficient modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvili system. Under the help of symbolic computation, different from those in the existing literatures, we find two branches of the similarity reductions, able to reduce that system to a solvable ordinary differential equation.
