When the pressurized front of a dam fails, the failure may extend to any depth and can result in flow speeds in the upstream and downstream sections that result in two types of waves: Rises downstream and falls upstream. A numerical model was used to calculate the flow wave parameters, based on the theory of random failure and integral laws for the preservation of mass and momentum. The techniques used for defining the relief of the locality and the reservoir are described.
