The authors conclude that elevation of the serum amylase levels 2 hours after SOM predicts development of post-SOM pancreatitis exclusively in patients who do not receive a PD stent. An elevated 2-hour serum amylase level that occurs in patients with a PD stent, however, predicts subsequent findings that "may occur because of attenuated pancreatitis."
