摘要
Dry machining with texture tools has shown a significant improvement in tribological conditions at the cutting zone. In the present work, it was proposed to test the Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) effect with texture tools to further improve the tribological conditions during machining of AISI304 material. In this work, textured tools were fabricated by making microgrooves (textured tool 1) and circular pit holes (textured tool 2) on the rake face of the tool and compared the performance of so developed tools and untextured tools during turning of AISI304 material under MQL. Results indicate that textured tools significantly reduced the cutting temperature, tool rake wear, flank wear and surface roughness to a maximum of 21%, 15%, 37% and 13%, respectively, when compared to untextured tools under MQL condition, respectively. Further, among the textured tools, textured tool 1 substantially improved the turning performance compared to textured tool 2. Microgrooves in the textured tools serve as coolant storage sites under MQL condition and provide a smooth cutting mechanism during turning of AISI304 material.
