Various publications have demonstrated the utilization of predictive information in optimal control problems of hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) to optimize the energy consumption. Such applications cover the predictive powertrain control and driving strategy for HEV. We introduce in this paper a cooperative controller architecture, so that both optimal controllers interact effectively and exchange predictive information to improve the energy efficiency a step further. Experimental results have confirmed the enhanced fuel economy in comparison to separate operations.
